National Instruments VXIpc-860 Embedded Computer
The National Instruments VXIpc-860 is a Pentium III Processor powered VXIbus Controller. This Embedded Computer is known for its rugged design and modular construction. When deployed in Slot # 0 of the VXIbus Chassis, this Embedded Computer operates as the system controller. For this role, it comes with a Data Transfer Bus Arbiter that accepts and manages bus requests on the four request levels of the VXIbus.
The smart arbiter circuitry incorporated in this device accommodates and grants the bus to the higher priority requester. The onboard 16 MHz oscillator incorporated on this Embedded Computer also drives the 16 MHz system clock. When deployed in Slot # 0, the NI VXIpc-860 controls the 10 MHz CLK 10 signal and drives it on a differential ECL output. This Embedded Computer comes with 2 RS-232 serial bus connectors, 1 VGA controller, 1 Ethernet connector, 1 trigger output connector and 1 trigger input connector. This Embedded Computer also supports a PS/2 keyboard and mouse.
All the input and output connectors available on this C-size Embedded Computer can be accessed via the front panel. The NI VXIpc-860 consists of a PCI-based CPU card, a 32-bit PCI Local Bus, an ISA Bus, and a VXI bus. The availability of an ISA bus enables this device to hold multiple PC peripherals. This Embedded Computer comes with an automatic Slot-0 detection circuitry. Users can bypass this circuitry if Non-Slot 0 operation is desired. However, a device configured for slot 0 operations cannot be used in any other slot.
VXIpc-860 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the embedded computer will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
