National Instruments 784307-01 Switch Device for PCI Express

Part Number 784307-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments CPIS-8910 Switch Device for PCI Express. The 784307-01 is a PCI Express 10-port switch that features a Gen 2 PCI Express x8 upstream port, a Gen 1 PCI Express x4 upstream port, and eight Gen 1 PCI Express x4 downstream ports. This means you can link any PCI Express host to multiple peripheral devices or expansion chassis. 

The 784307-01 also features a single power LED indicator and one link status indicator per PCI Express cable connector. The device can be used with 12 V copper or fiber optic cables. The power consumption is 20 W when copper cables are used and 54 W when fiber optic cables are used.  The device measures 1.75 in. x 17 in. x 12 in. in physical dimensions. The maximum copper cable length for x8 upstream is 3 m while it is 7 m for x4 upstream and x4 downstream ports. 

The 784307-01 is designed for operation between temperatures of 0 °C to 55 °C at a relative humidity of 10% to 90% (noncondensing). On the other hand, it can be stored at temperatures between -40 °C and 85 °C with a relative humidity range of 5% to 95% (noncondensing). Furthermore, it is designed for indoor use and up to a maximum altitude of 2,000 m. The device meets the requirements of the following safety standards: IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA 61010-1.  

The 784307-01 kit comes with the following items: rack-mounting brackets, a getting started guide, and a 12 V, 24 W power supply. Note that if fiber optic cables are used, a 12 V, 50 W power supply is needed. While operating the 784307-01, there are some safety measures that the user should be aware of. First, to avoid ESD, the user must ground themselves using a grounding strap or holding a grounded object. On the other hand, to maintain specified EMC performance, cables and accessories must be shielded and the length of all I/O cables must not be longer than 100 m.
